Products, philosophies, and parenting issues are constantly changing in the baby world. Think you’ve been there, done that? There’s always more to learn. Here are some of the latest (and lesser known) developments:
1. Flushable Diapers
Cloth or disposable? That is the question. If you’re environmentally friendly yet also want convenience when it comes to diaper duty, check out the first-ever flushable diapers. New on the market, each “flushable” fits into the snap-in liner of one of the reusable “little g pants.” After your baby does her business, simply toss the flushable down the toilet. Made of all-natural fiber, it’s 100% compostable – so you, your little one, and the earth, will all be happy. Plus, the “little g pants” are so cute.
2. New Booster Seat Rules
Is you little one too big for a car seat, yet too little to ride “shot-gun”? Keep kiddos safe by giving them a boost. New booster seat rules went into effect in July 2006. Each state has specific provisions, including age, weight, and height limits. California law requires kids 5 years old and younger, or less than 60 pounds, to ride in a child restraint device and in the rear seat.
3. Ergonomic Babywearing
If the Baby Bjorn wasn’t for you, check out this carrier for baby number two. It rests comfortably on your hips and doesn’t pull on your back. In the beginning, infants ride facing towards you, but once your baby gets bigger, she can ride either on your hip or piggyback style. It’s designed to “keep your body aligned and alleviate back pain so you can carry your baby longer.” So, if you’re into babywearing, yet also want to get things done, get in the know with the Ergo Baby Carrier.
4. Safer Sipping
More and more toddlers are showing signs of tooth decay. In response, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) released a statement suggesting that sippy cups be used for water only, unless it’s mealtime. Sugary drinks, or other beverages, should be served in regular cups only... and should have a limited consumption time. The AAPD believes that sippy cups, originally designed as transitional device, are being misused, exposing little ones to a higher risk of decay.
