Day-by-Day: So we had an exciting last couple of days. First we spent the night at Chick-fil-a to be one of the first 100 customers. We've done this now 3 times and each times you gets 52 combo coupons (a year's worth) for free. It was abeautiful day and we had a great time fellowshipping with other Chick enthusiasts. Then the next day we got our first sonogram. We got to see what the baby looks like, sort of. Check out the poll to see if you agree with the sonographers assessment of the gender. Baby was all curled up and she could get a very good open shot. I guess Baby was really comfortable. We are not convinced from the pictures so we're probably going to try to get another sonogram in a month. One of my friends has so appropriately named the baby "Maybe." So right now baby Maybe is some what unidentified and we will keep you posted. My Heart: Love at first sight. It is amazing to actually see our baby, it's frame, it's little heart, etc. I just teared up looking at this little life that the Lord is knitting together. It makes it so real. Even thinking about it makes me cry (I'm usually a weepy type person, but man! since having this baby it's kicked into overdrive) I don't have a lot of words. I just love this whole process and I get more and more excited to meet this little one. The Baby's Growth: Baby is REALLY low and it makes me have to go to the bathroom literally every 20-30 minutes. But Maybe's doing well and is moving around, especially if my pants are too tight. I've moved into maternity pants (and by the way, I love low rise jeans with the elastic band! It feels like your wearing sweat pants, but you don't get the "she's given up on life" look. I want to wear them when I'm not pregnant!) - The 20th week is an important time for Baby's sensory development, as nerve cells serving each of the senses (taste, smell, hearing, seeing, and touch) are now developing into their specialized area of Baby's brain.
- Our little one now weighs about 9 to 12 ounces and has grown to about six to eight inches in length.
- Under the protective vernix coating, Baby's skin will continue to develop into three layers: the dermis, epidermis and subcutaneous layers.
- Baby's nails and hair will continue to grow.
- Baby's heartbeat will be stronger now, and will beat about twice as fast as your heart. You can hear it this week through a stethoscope.
- Baby will take up more and more space in the uterus, and her continued growth will put more pressure on my lungs, stomach, bladder, and kidneys.
