Wondering what to give for the holidays this year? Why not give back to the earth and plant a tree in celebration?
The Arbor Day Foundation has a program called Trees in Celebration, where you can give the gift of trees. According to their website, Arborday.org, each dollar donated plants a tree in one of America’s national forests (usually forests that have been affected by fire, disease, or insects). You choose the amount you want to donate, and a festive card will be sent to a recipient of your choice.
So what’s the benefit in planting a tree? Trees help to fight global warming by reducing carbon dioxide (trees absorb the carbon dioxide, store it, and then emit oxygen). It also helps to offset all those trees that get chopped down for Christmas each year!
Although this is a different kind of holiday gift to give, it’s one that will benefit the future of our earth… and our children.
