kay, we know what happens when you find out you’re pregnant - you want to buy every book on the market that deals with pregnancy and beyond. We don’t blame you - we did it too - and we continue to do it as our babies move on to the toddler years, potty training... you name it.
But what to do with those books after you’ve outgrown each life stage? Before you even look at the trash can, consider the ultimate eco-friendly act: re-use and re-cycle.
Here are some earth-friendly ways:
- Host a yard sale
While you’re selling those valuable books, you might also find a buyer for the first two maternity pillows you bought before you found “the perfect one."
- Donate at your local Salvation Army, Goodwill (or other charities like Baby2Baby in Los Angeles)
With over 4 million births each year, there are bound to be many expectant moms who would benefit from your gently used pregnancy books.
- Share through message boards, such as those on The Cradle
Let other members know that you have books to share!
- Organize a swap at your home or preschool
Kimberly Danek Pinkson from EcoMom Alliance suggests throwing a soiree with friends called “’Tinis and Trading” – a swap meet/cocktail party featuring gently used books, kid’s toys, and clothes!
It’s all about sharing, conserving, and recycling... for your baby’s present and future.
