Is it safe to get a flu shot during pregnancy?

Barbara Dehn, RN MS NP:

Not only is it safe, it’s recommended after the 14th week. A women’s immune system is slightly suppressed in pregnancy, meaning that she is more likely to develop severe complications from the flu, such as pneumonia - or in some rare cases, death. The risk of developing a serious case of the flu is greater than any potential risk from the vaccine.
