Is it safe to get vaccines during pregnancy? Anything I should be concerned about?

Barbara Dehn, RN MS NP:

In many cases, we recommend that pregnant women get vaccines, such as the Flu, Tetanus/Diptheria or Hepatitis B vaccine in pregnancy. In other cases, such as with Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella, it’s not recommended. It’s also not recommended that pregnant women receive any live vaccines.

Occasionally a woman might be exposed to a potentially harmful illness, such as Hepatitis A, Polio or Pneumococcus and will need to discuss the risks and benefits of being vaccinated with her health care provider.
