HOW YOUR BABY IS GROWING: FIRST MONTH
Your baby is busy during this first month! Although you won't be able to hear it, the heart will start beating around the 24th or 25th day after conception. As you finish this first month, your little peanut will actually look more like a tadpole.

What's going on this month:

  • The fertilized egg, or blastocyst, finds a home in your uterus as it implants itself in the endometrial lining.
  • The growing fetus gets cozy - and stays protected - in the amniotic sac.
  • The placenta begins to form.
  • The umbilical cord begins to grow, providing oxygen and nutrition to the growing fetus.

The following features begin to develop:

  • Tiny arm and leg buds sprout.
  • The brain and spinal cord begin to form.
  • The heart and lungs begin developing.
  • The head and trunk start to form.
  • The eyes begin to develop.
  • Nerve development begins.
