38 weeks, in pain, and going crazy!

38 weeks, in pain, and going crazy! | 11/14/09 9:45 PM
I am so frustrated. I am 38 weeks and for a week now I have been having extreme cramping, lower back pain, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, and I am SO tired. I even had a spell of contractions 1 min each 3 min apart for 30 min and then they just went away. Last I was checked, which was monday the 9th, I was 4 cm dialated and 75% effaced. This is my 2nd child and my 1st pregnancy was nothing like this.
I just don't understand what is going on. how can I be in this much pain and still no labor? What can I do? Could labor be close? Could something be wrong? and worst of all, my husband just keeps asking me when I am going to have this baby and telling me that I should just be induced and that I'm messing up our schedules by not having this baby soon so I just feel like I have no support.
I'm seeing midwives so I don't even know what my options would be about being induced prior to being overdue...

For the back pain, try getting on all 4s and gently thrust your pelvic area up and down - this is called pelvic rocking. If your baby is positioned sunny side up, you could be experiencing some pressure on your back bones. This exercise will HELP. Maybe, you already know this, but thought I would throw that out there.

Hope you feel some relief soon! Sounds like your baby is coming soon! Very exciting!

Talk to your midwife about blue and black cohosh. That and the old standby castor oil (they have tasteless stuff now)38 weeks is pretty close.
I was always told to take a good warm bath and soak to hopefully stave off false contrax and if real.. maybe set off the real thing and get the show on the road.

Try n rest!

Im sorry to hear you are in soo much pain. I dont think anything is wrong, that baby just doesnt want to come out yet lol. If you have not had this done yet, you can always ask if you can get a cervix sweep. Sometimes it works with in 24 hours, sometimes it doesnt work at all, but your far enough along and your body def seems well prepared for when that baby does decide to come. Its an option.
Also just try very hard to relax and be comfortable. Dont let your husbands comments get to you.... he cant force the baby out, and he shouldnt be in such a hurry to get the baby out when you still have a couple weeks to go. That stress can be causing you alot of unnecessary pain. I hope things go well and good luck with everything!

I'm not positive that I have lost my mucus plug. I had a few signs that I might have but it was real gradual.
I had my membranes swept today. I really hope that it works!

I don't have advice about the labor because I'm 35 weeks with my first right now.

Your husband, however, is being an a$$. This is your second child. I would think that he'd realize you can't just schedule birth around him (and as an adult, that the Earth doesn't revolve around his schedule, either). He should not be putting even more stress on your right now when you're at your physical limit.
