Am I THAT big already?? | 7/1/09 1:35 PM
I'm now a full 24 weeks (aka 6 months pregnant), and I think my actual "baby bump" must have just shown up within the last week or something because I have had SO MANY people at work comment on it! I work in a hospital envrionment, so I work with a lot of people, and at least 10 in the past 5 days or so have made comments such as "WOW, you''re really showing", "Look at that- you're starting to bulge", "WOW, you're so big already!"... Each time I look at them and say..."well I am 6 months pregnant" while thinking to meyself "And can you please not use the word "bulge" "..geesh!

I think it's fun to actually look pregnant instead of just fat, but I have to admit that the comments are making me feel a little self conscience! I have only gained 9 lbs, and from what I can tell, it's all boobs and belly. I still fit into all my old clothes with a little help from a rubber band, and don't feel like my belly is exceptionally large...am I just being paraniod? This is my first, so maybe I am just feeling a little self consciencious... I doubt they have my due date memorized, so I'm sure no one really means to offend me when they make these comments because they don't realize I'm over halfway done, but sometimes I just want to be like "F off!". lol Anyway- just had to get that out..I feel a little better!

I am in the same boat. I'm just past 23 weeks myself and am showing pretty obviously. I've only gained 9 or 10 lbs as well. I'm carrying all out front in my belly, so it's not like the pounds have gone to my butt or some place unuseful. My family has made comments about how huge I am. One of my hubby's relatives was like "Wow, you're big, are you sure it's not twins? I didn't start to show until I was like 5 months." Mind you this was when I was 21 weeks- a full 5 months. When I told her this, she didn't say much else. Every time there's a get together, I feel like people are surprised at how much bigger I am. I'm pregnant, and I'm growing!

It would be nice if people said stuff like "Look at that beautiful belly," or "Wow, you look great pregnant," instead of "Whoah, you are big!" and "You sure there's not 2 in there?" As if there's something abnormal about growing a belly this far into pregnancy.

Woo, that felt good to vent too. So, I totally sympathize with your feelings. Don't know why people can't be more tactful. The important part is how you feel about your belly. Your belly is doing its job, and that's an amazing thing.

I'm in kind of a different boat, I'm about 7 1/2 months along and I keep getting comments like "you don't even look pregnant!" or "you just look like you have a little beer belly." Um, right, I look obviously pregnant, there should be no doubt at this point. There is a difference between being polite and just being stupid, it's really starting to irritate me!

I had been told a lot through this whole pregnancy (7 1/2 months) that I was so tiny, which was nice to hear. Now, I suddenly feel huge too. At my last appointment, they said I'm now up a total of 14 pounds. The comments about getting big really do suck. The doctor even said "Wow you got big since last time." It's even making my back hurt a whole lot. By the end of the day, it even hurts to sit. But you're not alone AT ALL!

I understand exactly how you feel. I'm 29 weeks now and people have been telling me I'm huge for a couple of months now. Like you, I'm all tummy and boobs. I've only gained 20 pounds, which is small compared to the amount of weight I gained with my two sons. My co-workers are the worst and some of the comments are really annoying, especially when I'm having one of my hormonal days. I've heard the "you're have twins" comment and the "your doctor must have your due date wrong" comment. I try to smile and brush it off, but it does get to you after a while. Hang in there sweetie! We're all gaining weight for our precious angels we're carrying, so all of the comments and backaches are so worth it! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy:-)

Just be thankful you're showing! I'm at the end of my 23rd week, and haven't started showing yet. I am overweight as it is, and carry all of my weight in my belly, so I have always been asked in the past if I was pregnant ( !!! NO !!! ) And now when I am, people can't tell! I'm just waiting for the day I pop when I can be pregnant not just fat!!

I hear ya! I'm nearly 23 weeks (this weekend), and most people are just asking if I'm expecting... but my own MOTHER asked me at 20 weeks if the dr. was sure I wasn't having twins. I nearly cried.

I had the "twins" comment made once...I'm pretty sure the laser beams that I shot from my eyes answered the question that I am only have one...lol

This is an old thread, but I still wanted to throw my two cents in!

I started this pregnancy chubby. My 'baby bump' basically pushed all of my existing belly fat upward so that I had to transition to maternity pants just inside of my fourth month simply because my regular jeans had no waistline to settle into, they just rolled down under my belly. Not very attractive. Now I look massively pregnant simply because my belly has rounded out in the maternity pants with baby pushing his way up under my chub. (Now just inside five months).

At my last appt two weeks ago, I had gained only a pound. I don't want to gain an excessive amount of weight, so I'm careful of what I take in and I walk and exercise everyday. My mom and grandma and even my boyfriend still can't seem to resist the occasional comments of "You know, you don't REALLY get to eat for two".. It's heartbreaking to me because I've always been very selfconcious of my weight and they have even seen me in tears over not wanting to gain weight and look like a whale.

In my grandma's generation, pregnancy was not seen as an excuse to overindulge oneself. My mom was so sick with me, she was at her skinniest after giving birth to me. My aunt didn't show until almost 8 months! I keep getting all these "gentle" reminders.. It's so frustrating!

I know how you feel. I lost 11 lbs in the first trimester to gain it all back in the second trimester. I try to eat healthy but many times i don't feel like eating yet I manage to gain the weight. I'm not showing more than ever my face looks really big. I walk by parking my car as far from the train as possible but it seems like none of that works. I don't want to gain too much weight because I was already over weight but at the same time I want a healthy baby. My best bet is to keep doing what I'm doing and pray all the weight is water weight or just all baby. Best of luck to you all. Hope we all lose what we've gained so far. Can I also say men have the easiest job, they put the seeds in and then they can walk freely about. We feel all the feelings, we go through all the emotions granted they are there but they can't imagine how we feel. Pat on the back to all of us soon to be and those that are already MOTHERS!!!!!
