I went for my 36 week ultrasound today. The baby looks exactly like I did when I was a baby! She's 5lbs 11oz (a little small, but not a bad thing). Everything looks good, except for the fact that she's breech. The tech said that there's a chance that she'll flip in the next couple weeks. Of course, if she doesn't, I'll need a c-section. I was just wondering if anyone else was breech to start and then the baby flipped in time, if anyone knows what the liklihood that she will flip... Also, those that have been through a c-section before, could you share your experiences? I have a friend who had one last year and she made it sound like torture, but a colleague of mine said she was glad she had it. I just never thought I'd even possibly need one and now I'm a little scared.

Hey Katie, you still have some time before your due date so hopefully she will flip. However, I had my baby girl on August 5, 2009 went into the hospital at 6 cm dilated and still ended up with a c section. Honestly it isn't that bad I do have some pain but nothing that I can't handle. I am still able to take care of my daughter and get around just fine. I do hope she turns for you but if not everything will turn out fine. Good luck

Hi Katie, my first baby wasn't breech but I did have a c-section. At 6 cm dilated her heart beat began to rapidly drop. The doctors said it was probably because my hips were too small and the contractions were squeezing her too tightly. Anyhow, a c-section can seem very scary, but it's not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. My thoughts are if you mentally prepare yourself for the chance of having a c-section and you let yourself feel ok if that ends up being the outcome you tend to do better with the recovery. I personally think that the women that are dead set on having an all natural birth and concentrate strictly on that have a harder time in the end if they do have to get a c-section. I have watched many baby shows on tv where women are emotionally a wreck if they ended up needing a c-section. 9-10 of those shows the women made the c-section out to be the worst experience of their lives. It doesn't have to be like that! Take my advise when I say keep an open mind about the procedure should you need it. Know in your heart that if you do, it's what's best for the baby, and also remember you are a strong woman and you will do just fine. My recovery was great, I was back to school in two weeks!

Hi Katie,

I had two c-sections and I'm schedule to have a c-section this time. I am 35 weeks and my baby was breech a couple of weeks ago. I just came back from my appointment and they gave me a sonogram and she turned, but it doesn't matter because I'm still scheduled to have a c-section. I did not have any problems with my first two c-sections. The pain wasn't too bad and I was still able to care for my two sons. I hope she turns for you, but if she doesn't, trust me you will be just fine after your c-section:-)

Thanks everyone. I have another appointment Thursday to see if she's turned. But now I'm feeling better about the possibility of a c-section. I have a friend that needed one and she was one of those who made it sound like torture, which is why I went into a panic. But I know she's kind of a drama queen and hearing from so many other people that it's not so bad has put me at ease.
