Double Stroller. HELP! | 12/20/07 4:22 PM
I am going to need a double stroller this summer. My daughter will be 22 months when the baby is born. I live in Dallas where the weather is mostly too hot most of the time for outdoor fun. There is a lot of mall hopping in the summer and indoor playgrounds etc.. I need something lightweight, compact and easy. I am spoiled though and I need a stroller that moves well. I think my only option is a Maclaren, any ideas. The P&T with doubles kit was too heavy, Combi did not steer well, peg aria did not steer well. Any thoughts? Does anyone have thoughts on the Baby Planet Unity or Jane Powertwin?

When I first found out we were preggers again, I immediately went stroller shopping. My 2 faves were the

Kolcraft Contours Options tandem
http://www.kolcraft.com/product.aspx?id=149&&shopby=category

and Graco LX or LXI
http://www.gracobaby.com/products/subcategory.asp?N=44+10417+54&act=A20

My single stroller was a Graco Metrolite, so by comparison everything was unbearably heavy for me. I needed to get something as light as possible with a large sturdy basket and it had to be easy to set up, collapse, and manuever.

I ended up choosing the Kolcraft Contours Options tandem and haven't been disappointed yet (I've had it about 4 months). It is unbelieveably easy to manuever...very smooth ride. It is a bit heavy, but I don't think you'll find a lightweight double stroller. It fits easily in my Ford Expedition even with all seats up (there is absolutely NO cargo space when all seats are up...less than a sedan). I am now 5months preggo with my 2nd and can still get it in and out without too much trouble (though afterwards I need a 5 second breather, lol)

I also use it to go grocery shopping instead of a shopping cart, lol . The basket is so large and sturdy. It's just easier for me to put dd in there.

I have 16 month old twins and am expecting a little girl in May~ I have the Graco double stroller (the G collection one) and my jogging stroller, which my cousin bought for her twins and it has car seats as well, is the Jane. I love them both!!! The one thing I suggest is stick with front-back instead of side-by-side. Both of the ones I have are light and easy to use. Hope this helps!!!

I would highly recommend one of the Graco double strollers - especially if you have a infant car seat - you can just snap it in. If you are looking for something very lightweight and you don't care about adding in the infant car seat, I would go with the (new) Baby Jogger - City Mini double. You can fold each seat down flat and it comes in a few different colors.

Good luck! Stroller searching can be so frustrating. I spent so much time on it.

I had the combi double when I had a 20 month old and a newborn. It is nice because both seats are equally comfortable and fully reclining, the baskets underneath are super nice and if you get the one with the speakers/music set-up, you can rig a dvd player to the front bar and entertain them while you cruise the mall. It fold up really easy and does not take up as much space in the trunk.
The other one I have seen lately that looks sweet is the phil & ted's with the one seat that is pretty much under the other, so you's have to put the baby in the back and it may not last as long keeping everyone happy.

hope this helps!

Hello domino,

There are a few things that you always want to think about before you make a large purchase - especially when strollers are concerned. many times, retailers are not willing to accept double strollers back if they have been used at all outside.
Are you going to be using the stroller outside most of the time, or are you going to need to purchase a stroller that is easy to colapse and place in the car numerous times a day? If so, always think about WEIGHT, as well as the bulkiness of the stroller when it is colapsed
Also, always look at how the stroller is composed - too much plastic parts and pieces tend to cause problems later. You are better off getting something that is well put together to begin with, then learning your lesson later.
I have had much experience with the Jane Powertwin - I am not sure I would recommend it to someone that is not walking outside very often.

I have just reviewed the Phil & Ted's Vibe on my blog, check it out!

HEY!!! I just bought a peg perego double stroller and i love it so far! I had an eddie bouer single stroller for my son and i hate it!! The peg perego weights the same as my single one and it even fits better in my lancer! I bought my peg perego used (it looks brand new!!) but saved a ton of money seeing as they retail in stores for close to 800 bucks!!
