We've been discussing god parents. Anyone have any tips, thoughts, or experiences to pass along in regards to this decision making process? Seems like it could be a touchy one.

When choosing God Parents, the things you need to consider are who you want to take care of your children in case something happens to you and your spouse. Will they be able to financially, do they have some of the same values as you, will they be able to raise your children into adulthood. Just some aspects to consider. Hope this helps you. Congratulations and Good Luck.

It can be a touchy subject, along with many others when it comes to raising children. However, picking Godparents is not a popularity contest or saying just how much you love someone- it's about what's best for the children if something were to happen to you. Although some feelings might be hurt in the process, hopefully the ones that maybe weren't your first pick (or far from it) will understand you were only doing what you think will be best in every aspect for the child after you are gone.

I guess it depends on what you're "godparents" are going to be responsible...I've always considered them to be people that are more there to help and guide your child with its relationship with God. Godparents are generally announced and present at baptisms and continue to be present through other milestones like Holy Communion and Confirmation. I don't believe that the people whom you choose to be godparents are going to necessarily be the ones that would be responsible for your child if something were to happen to you...But everyone has their ideas on this. Hope it all goes well for you!!
