Having the nursery ready | 12/16/07 2:46 PM
My boyfriend and I are currently renting a 3/2 house; it's small for a 3/2, though, about 1000 sq ft. We have an extra bedroom to do whatever we like with, but we have both agreed that we want the baby's crib to be in our bedroom until she is 1 yr. old. Now, I am 25 weeks right now and we haven't even talked about what we want to do with the spare bedroom. Do we really need to get a jump on it or since the main issue of where baby is sleeping is solved can we relax a little about it? I wanted to wait until after the baby showers (we are having three!) to start decorating the nursery, but I think December is a horrible month to do a registry, so my showers won't be until late January/early February. I am due in late March. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Don't stress too much over if the nursery is done or not. Once your "nesting" instincts kick into full gear, you may think differently about this ;)! It is a nice way to welcome the baby and a project to pass the time of your pregnancy, as sometimes it can just get drawn out. I really like the idea that you'll have the crib in your room. You are smart for that. I was totally opposed to having our baby sleep in our room, but once I had her, my thoughts changed completely and I found it was the only way I actually got any sleep without worrying about her. If you are planning on staying in your current home then you might want to think about getting the nursery ready just so that there is a space for all the baby's things, and trust me, if you are having three showers, you will need to have that space. I'm with you on avoiding doing the registries during the holidays, I stay out of stores and malls at all costs. When I get pregnant again, I'm planning on registering online mostly. I get overwhelmed at those superstore kinds of places. I was on babycenter, and someone posted a cute store, divasanddrooligans.com and I think I will do a baby registery there. I purchased some things for my daughter there and liked it a lot. Also, most of the major stores (target/babies-r-us) do online registries. Anyhow, don't stress over the nursery too much-- but I would pick a color and have your boyfriend paint it at least. Once it is filled with baby stuff, you will never get to painting if you don't do it beforehand. You will also want to some way of organizing, because when you are prepared with your clothing and supplies, things run a lot smoother. It can be mayhem at times once the baby is there ! Good luck!
