I received the H1N1 Vaccine. | 11/9/09 8:04 PM
I am 15 weeks and received both the seasonal flu shot and H1N1 Vaccine flu shot. I did not have any reactions or side effects to them besides feeling extremely tired the day I received them.

I am an avid believer that our body can naturally fight off illnesses like the seasonal flu. I have never received the seasonal flu shot before. However, now that I am pregnant, I did not want to risk putting my life nor my baby's life in danger because we, pregnant women, are the most susceptible to illnesses. Our immune systems are designed to protect the baby more than ourselves. Yet, when we get sick, what is left to protect our babies?

Here is a woman' story in the New York Times called, "Flu Story: A Pregnant woman's Ordeal," published October 19, 2009, about her loss when she caught the swine flu while pregnant: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/20/health/20pregnant.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=swine%20flu%20pregnancy&st=cse

Her story was enough for me to make my decision, more so because I am a working woman and come in contact with multiple people and environments throughout my day, from meetings to grocery stores and office bathrooms to cafes. Ultimately it is up to you and your partner to decide. Take care!

I too received both the H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccines, I am 18 weeks pregnant and had no reaction to either vaccine. I did receive them a few weeks apart. I also had my 21 month old son vaccinated for both, and he too had no reaction.

I believe that both vaccines are safe and any reaction experienced will be a lot more mild than the actual flu. If anyone out there has ever had the flu, then they will agree a vaccine is worth it! I get the flu shot every year and feel fortunate that I was able to get the H1N1 for both myself and my son.

I am 18 weeks and this is my experience...I, too, received it when it became available up here in Washington State at the County Health Department....only thing was- they don't have the Thimerisol free one. I wasn't educated enough on Thimerisol to make an informed decision when I found out that day, so I left, went home, did some research, and went back. My reasoning was: No evidence to support potentially harmful Thimerisol on a fetus VS. TONS of evidence this H1-N1 virus can be fatal to otherwise healthy pregnant women. Plus, the amount of Thimerisol in the H1-N1 vaccine I received had about the same as a can of tunafish. They also said they wouldn't vaccinate INSURED people, so I had to lie (the Health Department had the ONLY vaccines), even though I fit into the highest risk catagory! Silly. I checked the "no" box on the sheet they have you fill out and no questions were asked or info verified.
I am a Flight Attendant, so I also felt an urgency to get it as soon as possible even if it meant lying to protect myself and the baby, because it's only a matter of time before I come in contact with it! Good thing, too, because they ran out of vaccine in 4 days and thought they would get more within 2 weeks, but still haven't seen any. My Women's clinic where I see my OB are 1st on the list to get and they haven't seen any either! I had no reaction, but they gave my 6 year old, and my 3 neices the spray and by the end of the day, they were all coming down with a cold. It only lasted a few days, and they were fine after that. I think it's because the spray is a live, weakened version. They won't give pregnant women the spray. I'm not a germ-a-phobe- never even got the seasonal before I was pregnant, I think at any cost, GET IT if you can find some!

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and received both vaccines. I had no side-effects from the either vaccines. I have had the seasonal flu before and it took me a month and a half to recover at the age of 16... I wasn't about to risk it while I am pregnant. I really hope I never get it again!
I have heard several complaints about the shot/and/or the medicine but the shot was painless and so was the medicine as it went in. I can only assume that the complaints I heard from either of the vaccines were because the shot giver wasn't great, the shot receiver was afraid of shots, or that they had an allergic reaction to the shot (like the egg base....)
