I was curious about how everybody out there did things. I have a new nephew about 5 weeks old. My sister does not like to put her son down to sleep and leave him cry. She claims that when she rocks him he will wake up right after he is laid in the crib, he won't fall asleep while she stands and rubs his back. She is tired because he won't nap, but she refuses to lay him down and let him cry himself to sleep.
Even though I don't have any children of my own, (we're TTC) I've always been under the idea that when you put them in the crib they need to know its time to sleep and the best way to get them to know it's time to sleep is to leave them alone? Some times they will cry, some times they wont? My other sister has 2 boys already and her and I see eye to eye on this issue. She has no major problems getting her boys to lay down when it's time to sleep.
I'm just wondering what all of your techniques are! And what you think on the subject.
Thanks!
I've heard of a book called "Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child" and it's supposed to give some good advice about getting children to go to sleep and get on a good sleep schedule. I haven't read it yet, but it's on the list. I've had many swear by it. Otherwise I guess it just depends on your patience meter.
