My first viable pregnancy... | 5/27/09 11:04 AM
So I am 13 weeks pregnant today. My baby is due Dec. 2nd and I am sooo excited. I have had a rough beginning so far. I actually conceived sometime in December or January and then miscarried in late February. My boyfriend and I then went on vacation to Mexico and conceived about three weeks after my miscarriage, very unexpectedly I would say. But we are absolutely thrilled about this pregnancy. I have been trying so hard not to get too attached, because I was worried about the possibility of miscarriage. But now that I have heard the heartbeat and seen my baby, I can't help but think that its going to work out this time. I have also had a lot of nausea and I vomit regularly every morning. It doesn't seem to be slowing down and I am starting my second trimester. I have lost five pounds and medications aren't helping me keep food down. I am so worried that my baby isn't getting enough nutrition, mainly because I can't keep my vitamins or much food down. I am just wondering if any one has had or is having similar issues with the weight loss and stomach problems. Thank you for reading!!

No worries! Now that you've heard the heart beat, there's only a 2% chance of miscarriage. And as far as weight goes, I lost 11 at the beginning. At this point I've only gained 2. My doc says it's ok for now. I need to gain about 2 more within the next 2 weeks to be exactly where he wants me to be, but even then, it's not that terrible if I don't. Weight doesn't matter til the 3rd trimester. Have you tried Flintstones vitamins instead of prenatals? I've heard of several women who that worked for.

Luckily... you are the one that will suffer before the baby does. I was sick at least 1 or 2 times everyday for about 4 months strait. It gets better and you will eventually gain wait. It seems to come out of nowhere when you do.

My doctor recommended taking Unisom (sleeping pill) it will make you drowsy but it supposedly works great for nausea. I decided against doing it ... but he seemed to think it was completely normal???

It's extrememly common! I don't think I kept a meal down for months and months! My doc said baby was thriving and I needn't worry. I heard somewhere that food held down for even 15 minutes gave some nutrional value - I'm sure is was a load of BS - but I watched the clock and sipped water until at least that much time had passed! It was miserable.

My doc recommended unisom as well... I tried it a couple times, but it didn't make a difference for me so I gave it up.
