NAP PROBLEMS FOR BABY | 12/5/07 4:51 PM
I have a 10 month old little boy who naps, maybe 45 minutes a day, if I am lucky. He usually sleeps from 7pm-6am, more or less, but I don't get a break during the day! He is so sensitive to sound...and if he's not tired enough he wails in his crib non-stop. He's not cranky during the day, with no sleep, as long as he gets a cat nap of a 1/2 hr-45 min at some point. HELP!

Well, all I can tell you to help is that it seems, with my son, that his napping schedule changed with age. He used to sleep an hour if I was lucky and after he turned one, he started to sleep an hour and a half to two hours. He still does at age 3. Make sure to put him down at the same time everyday, or just about. My son just had to get used to noise, as I was trying to be quiet when he napped and I created the noise problem. Eventually he got used to it. I also tried giving him a bottle with some water or formula in it and he seemed to put himself back to sleep if he had that. GOOD LUCK!

My neighbor's son is really sensitive to noise during his naps. She bought a white noise machine and says that really helps.

K, my daughter slept 6 hours out of 24... I timed her!!!! I was at the end of my wits!! Have you tried a swing??? That was the cure for my daughter. She napped in there during the day and slept in her crib at night. I also got those baby Einstein videos... those helped to soothe her... dont' ask me why. My father-in-law is a genius!!!!

I can completely understand your dilemma here. My son was exactly the same way. The solution I came up with was actually cuddling with him on the couch with the television on. I wait until he's out for about 20 minutes or so and then I can get him up to his crib with no problem. It sometimes takes a while to get him to sleep and we have some trouble at times, but I just have to use my will power to out do him. This system works for us and I am sure you'll find something that works for you as well. Good luck!
