I went to have my first ultrasound done on Wed. Dec 3rd & much to my own and my husband's surprise, we were informed that we are having twins! I was really amazed, because although we had been joking about it (because my sisters are twins) I never really expected it to be true. Now I am so excited and so anxious. I've been told that multiple pregnancies are high risk. What should I start doing to prepare? Is anyone else having multiples?

I also found out that I was having twins through an ultrasound on last dec15. Interesting, there is no case of twins in my family neither at my husband's family. Also this is my first pregnancy, so I'm already starting out with two... at first, I was shocked, now I feel so blessed. I'm 14 weeks, we may have to go through bed rest in the future months, that's why I have been looking for expecting moms of twins -- because a group is much better to support each other. I'm anxious too! I had a dream that both were boys, then another dream that both were girls - this is pure anxiety.
How many weeks do you have? Do you already know the babies' gender? I hope hear from you soon.

Hi! It's so nice to meet someone else who's expecting twins! I am also 14 weeks so I think we must be due around the same time. Our twins are due on July 2, 2009. I am sooo anxious right now, at first it seemed like time was just dragging along but now it seems that these weeks are coming pretty fast. I have my first appointment with the high-risk doctors on Jan. 12 so I can't wait for that to get all of my questions answered. So far I believe that I am going to have a scheduled C-section because this is my first pregnancy as well and my primary doctor says that because my uterus has never been stretched before, a c-section would be best. I want to know how far will they allow me to go before having it done? Anyway I will keep you posted. Congratulations on your twins too! Also, what is your due date???

Congrats on the twins!! And from a mom of twins - don't worry about the little stuff. You'll figure it out along the way. I didn't have any more doctor's appointments, but I did have way more ultrasounds. They didn't find my twins till I was 4 months, so keep going like normal until your doctor says you need to slow down, and listen to your body. By the time I was 6 months pregnant, I spent most of my time on the couch reclining, and resting. It was just SO SO SUPER EXHAUSTING. I was tired all the time. I didn't buy two of everything either, I had boy/girl twins. So I still ended up having to get two wardrobes. I did get two exersaucers, and I think I had two swings, too. I ended up in the hospital at 34 weeks on bedrest at 4 centimeters, had labor start spontaneously on it's own twice and then stop on it's own. (I cried and yelled and swore that they were never coming out - I think the nurses were ready to send me to the psych ward!!) THen one morning I got up to go to the bathroom and my water broke. WOOHOO!!

They were born at 35 weeks, 5 days. Because babies under 36 weeks are considered "preemies" they had to stay in the nursery for 48 hours. My daughter needed a little oxygen for four hours, but after that she was fine. My son didn't have any problems until they circumcised him. (story for another time) THey were both over 6 pounds. I was able to have sex for as long as it felt comfortable to me. And don't listen to anyone who says you can 'hoover' food! You still have to lose it, and the difference in recommended weight gain is not that much from a single pregnancy.

After they're here, take all the help you can get. Don't be afraid to tell someone that you need help. And don't worry if there are days when you feel like you're swimming upstream. There were days I cried because I couldn't hold them both or feed them both at the same time. And there were times I felt guilty because I let someone help me. (Co-bed them, it helps them sleep, and lay them side by side in nothing but diapers if you can....it's comforting for them and makes some really beautiful pictures for you. Mine slept together until they were almost 6 months old.) I swear, all that passes, and then they're bigger and less dependent on you and it gets so much easier. And it happens so fast. One last but really really important thing...they are twins, but seperate babies. I used to freak out because she was heavier than he was. It took almost a year for the doctor's to convince me that even though they shared a birthday, it was like having two singletons. Their weight gain and lengths did NOT have to be the same!! (my son also met most milestones a month before she did - but I think that was just because she was heavier. she did talk first though...)

They're six now and in kindergarden. And I look back at their baby pictures and can't believe how fast the time has gone!!

Awww...that was nice! I would like to have boy/girl twins too (they are my first)! I don't get to find out until February 13th. We decided not to have the quad test or amnio because it's not going to make a difference to us and they say that the quad test is so inaccurate. I don't want to stress myself out over any unnecessary issues. What do you think? Did you have one? If so, how accurate was it?
