There has been
much talk about glass vs. plastic, and even more about BPA (bisphenol-A) free plasitc vs. polycarbonate plastic bottles that still contain BPA.
It is always safer to use BPA free plastic bottles, as it is being found that BPA may cause early puberty in girls, and may even lead to prostate and breast cancer. The
National Toxicology Program recently released a
draft report outlining risks involved with using using shatterproof polycarbonate baby bottles and plastic containers.
If you are planning on using, or currently have these types of plastic bottles, it is safest not to heat the plastic, as that is how the toxins are released.
That being said, it is always safest to use glass bottles as glass does not contain BPA. And even if the plastic does not contain BPA, when it is heated, plastics may break down and still leech into the milk or food.
