Pregnant at 40 | 8/16/09 7:50 AM
Hey there! I am 40 yr old divorced mother of 2 wonderful boys ages 8 and 6. I just recently found out I am pregnant. Needless to say I was floored. Now that I know I am freaked out because of my maternal age...wondering if the baby will be o.k. and the effects on my boys. I am freaking out over every little thing. I took HPT it was positive. Later the same day had blood test taken which came back positive. Now I am scared because I don't feel pregnant. No sore breasts (a bit of tingling though), no sickness etc. The only thing I noticed was a missed period and extreame irritability. I was a bit cramppy around the time my period was due and a few days afterward. Other that that nothing. Just want a bit of reassurance. By the way I am about 4wk 5days.

There are risks at your age, but I know someone who had a baby at 50 (her only child at that point was 18 and about to leave for college when she found out!) and all is well with them. There were a lot more tests that she needed done and they monitored her more closely. But mother and baby were both perfectly fine and the baby just celebrated her 1st birthday a little over a month ago. So, don't worry! As for not feeling the symptoms of pregnancy, it's also very possible. I never got sick. No sore breasts. I actually didn't feel pregnant until around 19 weeks when my little girl began moving non-stop. Good luck to you. I'm sure it can't be easy getting a shock like that!
