So i went in for a regular check up with my doc at 31 weeks. And to my surprise he tells me that my cervix is soft and could be starting to dilate. And since I've told him I've had a couple braxton hicks every once in a while...He sent me to the Hospital to be monitored.
Had an ultrasound done and a couple hours of monitoring. And the baby is big and healthy. At already 4.5 lbs. But of course the lungs haven't finished developing and my cervix is funneling from the inside. Then I had two contractions while on the monitors.
So I'm on complete bed rest.. had to take 2 doses of Steroids (for the baby's lungs) I'm not suppose to be in the up right position or on my feet for more than 30 minutes...throughout the day.
Problem is. I have two toddlers here at the house with me. One fresh out of potty training...and just moved to a state where I have no family. and my husband is still in Iraq, not due to Come in for 6 more weeks.
So Anyone else have to do bedrest and did it help?
Also, anyone know how to do bed rest correctly with two small children? Right now we're safety gated in the kitchen/family room with movies, snacks and a potty chair next to the couch, where I'm laying. But it's hard to keep my 4 year old from tearing down the fence or raiding the fridge and cabinets.
I was also put on bed rest due to preterm labor at 31 1/2 weeks. I was actually contracting quite a bit. I was admitted into the hospital for one night, also given steroids. It did help. I am finally off bed rest now at 35 weeks because I am out of the danger zone. If you can hold off for at least 2 to 3 weeks it would help. I had limited trips to the bathroom so I was able to get up a little bit.
Do you have any friends that could help you with the kids? Neighbors? I fortunately had my mother-in-law and my mom during the day and my husband at night.
I definitely feel for you. I would also talk to your OB/GYN to see if he can give you any advice. I hope this helps.
