Hello, I am the mom of a 3 year old son and I had emergency surgery after his birth due to a retained placenta. Just wondering if anyone has had that experience and then had a second child. I am having my second baby in June and I am nervouse about it happening again. Doctor says it could or could not and I just wondered if anyone has had the experience. Thanks!

Hi, I had the same problem after I had my son 9 years ago but I did not need surgery as it was only a part of the placenta and my body got rid of it naturally (which was painful) however, throughout my pregnancy there was always a blood clot visible on the placenta during scans and this raised a few concerns. I am now pregnant with my second child and there are no visible blood clots so I am not too worried. Hopefully you have nothing to worry about as every pregnancy is completely different to the last (as im finding out) just keep an eye out in the scans and ask plenty of questions. Write them down and take them with you if you must as I always have a million questions and forget during my appointments.

My mom had a retained placenta when she had my sister and when my sister had her daughter the same thing occured. My sister had severe behavorial problems growing up. Her daughter seems to have picked up the same traits. I'm wondering if this retained placenta has anyting to do with the behavorial problems. Examples: when told "NO" throws a severe fit throwing objects and yelling mean words. Mood can change on an instant and etc. I'm wondering if anyone else that had the retained placenta has had severe behavioral problems with their child?
