as a reply to SweetChandy.
I have had anxiety for a while and just came off my meds to TTC so I've been upping the non-medical stress busters. Here are a few:
Practice deep breathing. This is especially good for me when I can't sleep. Breathe in deeply (aim for your tummy not your chest though I realize that could be tricky!) and exhale slowly. You can try counting as you do it, try to exhale longer than you inhale.
Take a warm shower or get your SO to give you a massage. It's not magic but it helps.
Throw yourself into a less stressful project. I knit which helps, but it could be watching a show on DVD you missed when it came out. (Catching up on a couple seasons.) Find a diversion book to read - something that takes you away.
Make a list of all the things that are stressing you. Sometimes just having it written out can help. If you need to go further, I like to play "and then what?" And just go through the list with the most stressful things and follow them all the way to the end. Just answer every response you give yourself with "And then what?" Eventually you'll feel like you can get through any of the issues or at least you'd know what you would do.
Schedule a completely diversionary activity unrelated to your stresses - so if it's a baby thing go to a fall festival - if it's money find a free lecture or class or event.
Totally NON-political recommendation, but it helped me just the other night. I couldn't sleep, I ended up reading a Time magazine. It was totally crazy of course. Finally I just said to myself, "Look if the President of the United States (or whomever the leader you like is) can sleep right now, so can I!"
Also nesting and preparing in less direct ways could be nice about now - how about finding some new recipes for make ahead meals and preparing them and freezing them for later on?
Just a few ideas! Good luck!
