My husband and I are going to start trying this year. We're having trouble deciding when to start trying. I am a teacher, so I have the summers off, and my husband travels for his job all summer long. Right now, I'm able to travel with him. Assuming we get pregnant within the first couple months (which I understand is a silly assumption, but you never know), we're trying to decide if we should start trying this summer (due in spring 09) or this winter (due late summer/early fall 09). My insurance will hold over until the end of September.

I guess I just feel guilty about planning to conceive when I know I'll have to take 3 months off.

Any advice? Any teachers out there? Any teachers from GA deal with Maternity leave?

I spoke with a teacher who gave birth late in the last semester so she had all summer to spend with the baby. A july-sept conception would probably be perfect for you. Goodluck, Lizzy due june13th

I myself am in my first year of teaching and have been dealing with the same dilema. I just did maternity leave for a teacher that had her baby in early August right before the beginning of the school year. She took the first quarter off. I myself have been thinking more along the lines of a late spring/early summer baby. This would allow you to take the end of the school year off as well as be home all summer!

I too teach so we just went through this delima. We planned these past 2-3 months so baby would be born May-July so that I could have lots of time with baby before having to go back to classes and not miss out on so much in the middle of a semester, but luck did not have it that way. So we are still attempting with the thought that apparently it was not meant to be. I decided that if it happens that baby will come August-December 2009 then my students and the college will still continue if I have to get a sub for awhile. I concluded that some things in life are bigger and more important than worrying about work. So I hope a summer baby works for you, and if it takes a bit longer, the school will survive. Best wishes!
