So, I had my ultrasound on Saturday and the tech said baby was scanning beautifully everything looked great...Then a few days later I get a call saying I need to have an ultrasound done by a specialist because the docs didn't see what they wanted to see...Like formation and stuff like that...I feel somewhat responsible for this and Im sorry if this is tmi but Im going to say it anyways...I think the ultrasound got messed up because I had sex the night b4 my u/s...They didn't tell me not to have sex, I didn't think it would have an effect on it, but apparently it did and I was advised not to have sex until this second ultrasound was complete. I am just trying so hard not to freak out, this is my first baby and I would feel awful if anything were to be wrong...But I guess I have to be positive about this one and look at it as an oppurtunity to have another u/s done by someone that knows what they are doing and knows what to look for...I don't even know if they tech was accurate on the sex of the baby now...She said it was definitely a girl and saw it twice but if the pics weren't clear who knows it maybe a boy.

Seriously? Sex can have an effect on the results of an ultrasound? HOW? And might I also add, oops! I just had one today. But, luckily they weren't looking for anything. It was actually at a medical careers school, so the girl was just practicing. I just didn't want to wait any longer to see my baby! I'm sure everything's fine. And it is another opportunity for you to see your baby and another opportunity to confirm that it's a girl!

Nobody ever told me not to have sex before an ultrasound, either. I've never heard of that and honestly can't think of how that would make any difference at all. Try not to be too worried right now - doctors like to err on the side of caution, and so there's a really good chance this will turn out to be a false alarm. Keep focusing on that thought that you will get to see your baby again - this time with someone more highly trained than the previous technician.

All the best to you and your little one

I just found out why having sex may have affected my ultrasound, it turns out I have placenta privia...My placenta is laying low on my cervix and thats y I need to have the u/s and thats y I can't have any kind of sexual stimulation until further notice. Its scary because I didn't think I was going to be a high risk pregnancy with my first one, but I talked to my Mom who is an RN and she said that when u are in ur 20th week or so that this can happen and by the time u are ready to deliver the placenta may have moved, if not I will have to have a c-section (not the route I was planning to go but whatever will keep me and baby alive is what Im interested in).

It's good that you know now. A c-section might not be ideal, but it's not the end of the world. I hope that the problem corrects itself, since you do still have quite a ways left to go. Good luck to you and your baby!

Discovering your pregnancy is high risk IS scary, but lately I've realized its better than not knowing. We are lucky to have the technology (and insurance!) to monitor our pregnancies. I was panicked all the time at first but feel comforted knowing my doctor is keeping an eye on me and making sure I know what to do to stay healthy.

Congratulations, by the way!

Oh! My doctors did the same thing with the Placenta issues. I just had my 2nd ultrasound a few weeks ago and mine too had moved up. 99% of the time the doctors are ruling on the side of caution. Just follow the orders and hopefully everything will be good as gold in no time. It is scary though... but having a positive outlook can do wonders. Best wishes.
