crib bumpers | 4/12/08 1:35 PM
Okay so I am a first time mom to be and I know that I have heard some news in the past about the safety of crib bumpers. But I noticed that every bed set comes with bumpers. Do people use them or not? I am having my mother in law make my linens for the nursery so not sure what to do about the bumpers. So what is your input on the bumpers use them or not? Thank you.

This is going to be my second child, so speaking from personal
experience I didn't have any problems with the bumper when my first son was a baby (6 years ago). I just bought my crib linens for my new baby and it has a bumper and I fully intend to use it. You can always buy one of the bumpers that lets the air flow freely if it will put you at ease. I know that every baby is different, but my first son didn't spend enough time in his crib to have a problem with it.

Techincally you are not supposed to use the bumpers, I work in a NICU and we are to tell the parents to not use them. However, I did use one with my daughter, because it does look nicer in the crib. I just took the bumper out when she was able to roll around and get close to the edge, so that she did not smother herself with them.

I'm a first time mom to be myself. I have heard that it is safe to use them up until they can move around in the crib. We plan on using one until the baby can roll around. Just to play it safe. Plus, it does make the crib look nice.

I didn't use them with my first child and this time I found breathable bumpers for the crib at babies r us. They look nice and are safe, so something for you to consider!
