earliest detectable heartbeat? | 10/3/09 1:32 PM

I have had 2 miscarriages this year. This is my 3rd pregnancy. I am 5w,3d. My first appt. is Tuesday at 5w,6d. I am really wanting to have an ultrasound ASAP, but really want to see the heartbeat to be reassured. If I had an ultrasound later in the week, once I'm over 6 weeks, would I be likely to see a heartbeat? Thanks.

I don't know about ultrasound, but I think for the ... doppler.. ? it's typically about 10 weeks that you can hear the heart beat... I imagine it's about the same for an ultrasound.

Best of luck.

At this point your baby's heart it is already beating. I believe you could see it if your obgyn's office has a very high-tech ultrasound.
I went to mine with 5w1d and all I could see was the yoke. I felt happy that it did not look like a tubal pregnancy, but at same time I feel a little sad because I could not see the heartbeat.

Good luck!

Early US sound great, you think they will ease your mind. But from my mind it makes things worse. I have had a MC in June and pregnant again. I had a US done at 6 weeks and it has been so stressful since then. I have had one every week since then along with blood test. I am 9 weeks today but got back bad new about my betas, I do have another US this Wednesday, we'll see. I am thinking I am going to have another miscarriage. Even though things progressed each week with US I think I could have enjoyed this pregnancy a little more if I wouldn't have gone in so early. Sorry this is not what you wanted to hear but if you don't get the good new with that early US you worry so much more.

i had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks and 5 days and they were able to see the heartbeat but just barely we got really lucky, it took her a while to see it so you have about a 50/50 chance if you go to have a transvaginal ultrasound before the 6 weeks mark usually they like to wait to make sure for one they can forsure see a heartbeat and for 2 be able to see developing baby and make sure its all ok and with a doppler its about 10 weeks i was able to get it at 9 weeks because i was only 113 pounds. good luck with everything im sure it will all be ok!

I had a MC a year ago, I am currenlty 13 weeks 4 days, around week 5 I started spotting so I called my Dr. I went in for an ultra sound around week 6 and was able to see the heart beating, they were able to tell me at that time the heart was beating 99 bmp. Hope this helps.

I am 27 weeks along and my first ultrasound was at 7 weeks and they where able to pick up the heartbeat at 132bpm but it has to be transvaginal for a better outcome.

Yes. I was 5w3d at my first ultrasound and we could see the heartbeat on the monitor.
