membrane sweeping? | 11/17/09 2:59 PM
I had my membranes swept this morning. Did this work for inducing labor for anyone else? I have been extremely crampy since then and having really strong contractions but they won't pattern out. What is the liklihood that I could go into labor? What else could I do to encourage labor?(I am 39 weeks, 4cm dialated and 75% effaced)

One of my girlfriends had this done a few weeks ago (two weeks before her due date) and went right up until her due date. She started active labor just before midnight.

A lot of people say this is effective almost immediately, but it really doesn't for everyone. Try to just relax and wait for it to come (easier said than done, right?).

well, I didn't have my membranes swept, but I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced on a Friday, and the next morning my water broke and I was in labor .. . had my beautiful girl at 7pm on Saturday

I had my membrane swept or "scraped" for my last pregnancy. My doctor did it a week before my due date because my baby measured about 8 1/2 lbs and I was terribly uncomfortable! I also experienced strong cramping and discomfort that evening but I didn't go into active labor until two days later. I'm not sure if the sweeping helped bring the labor on, but if I'm in a similar situation at the end of my current pregnancy, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I was four days overdue with my son (born in May). My membranes were swept Monday afternoon, and by 2 AM Tuesday morning I was having contractions. He was born 8:18 that morning. It worked for me!

I had a membrane sweep 2 days ago and for the first 12hours I was having small contractions but they stopped completely! Ive not had one all day
im now 41.3 weeks, ive tried everything to induce labour myself.. pineapples, sex, hot food, castor oil, exersizes, and nothing yet.
I think you just need to wait until your bodies ready, the membrane sweeps just more of a kick start.
All the best!!
