rock and roll, anyone? | 8/28/08 3:41 AM
i know this is premature, since we dont even know the babys sex yet, but i cant seem to find what im looking for. and, i have a feeling, once i do find it, its gonna cost a pretty penny....

here's my problem- i found tons of little rock and roll onesies, booties, hats, diaper bags, and even a few blankies, but where's all the matching nursery decor? dont get me wrong, i love puppies and teddy bears just as much as the next mommy to be. but how am i supposed to put my little rock star (who will undoubtedly be clad in a baby band tee and black skull booties) to bed amidst rainbows and kittens?

i dont want a creepy black nursery, by any means. color is must! and i do love a lot of the sweet little baby designs out there! (rubber duckies and little frogs! i cant get enough! they just dont cut it for our theme)

it has to be sweet, but it definetly needs to have that "edge" to it, because... well, thats just our family!

any suggestions?

target has really cute (but not sickening cute) polka dot themed crib bedding and decorations. the line is called dwell studio. they have neutral, pink, and blue sets. i went with the neutral, painted the walls a darker khaki, and painted polka dots on one wall over the crib.

i personally would love to dress my little girl in rock 'n roll clothes but they are so expensive!!! if you find any good deals please let me know!

I made my own honestly. At crft stores you can find wooden cutouts of stars and animals and about everything you can imagine. They are about 50 cents a piece and you can paint them any color you want. I spent awhile looking for already put together designs, but like you didn't want to go to "babyish". The craft store is your best bet! Good luck!

I would do solid colors for the crib if you have a girl you should do like hot pink and black (my best friend did that and its so cute but punkish too) if you have a boy you should do the gray and blue colors and then you can go to craft stores and buy whatever you want for the walls.. I went to Old navy and they had all of their rock star baby stuff out, I am having a boy so I piled up.. super cute

I'm so glad you asked this question!!!

My husband and I were also thinking of doing a music/rock & roll theme. (He plays guitar, bass, drums, etc.) Here were some of our plans. Feel free to steal them if you'd like:

*Getting CD wallpaper and putting CD's in them as part of the wall decoration, or putting records on the wall
*Paiting music notes on the wall
*Making the changing table look like a turn table (we'll have to get crafty on that one!)
*Sewing pillows that look like amps
*Putting black and white pictures of our favorite artists on the wall
*For a Girl - make the nursery "Rock & Roll Diva/Princess" I think pink and black look really good together

Granted, almost all of these require some creativity and can't find much of this in the store, but I think making it is half the fun!!!!

Good luck & Rock On! <3 - Sarah

I'm doing the same thing, check out this bedding set at Babies R Us:

https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2560471&fromRegistry
Number=91673593&product_skn=663258

It's black and white.

Also, I don't know if you're into Paul Frank, but even if you're not, I bet you'll like this diaper bag:

http://www.littlebits.com/product_info.php?item_number=11327

Don't pay $56 for it, though- that was just the first link I found with a picture. I got it in a store for $35.

Paul Frank has a whole baby line called Small Paul.

Good luck!

there are a few website that aren't too bad. cafepress.com is my favorite. you'll run into a couple designs that are moderately offensive (you know, like the stuff youd find at Spencers) but most of it is amazingly cute! and edgy too.

thanks! i like the solid color crib set idea. then it wont look to cluttered if i embellish a bit on the painting.

I LOOOVE YOUR IDEAS!!!!! yep, it looks like im gonna be getting crafty, too. but that'll give it more sentimental meaning, when its all said and done.
i thought of maybe finding (or making) a guitar shaped sponge, and sponge painting a wall or 2. that way, i can add lots of color since id like the furniture to be black.
maybe cd covers as a border.....? ive seen it done with beer labels at a bar.... (im loving the music note idea, too)
if you do the changing table/ turn table thing, you'll have to print pictures! that should be adorable!
thanks for your advice! lets keep in touch as we go along!

i really love the diaper bag! thanks for that link! small paul stuff - very cute!
my only problem with all of the black and white crib sets ive found is this- they all seem to have some sort of paisley-like pattern on one side. i think i may just go with a solid color. thank goodness i have so much time to think on it!

I don't know how "rock and roll" you're wanting to go with the nursery, but I saw the coolest pink and black crib set on ebay today! Here's the link....

I'm not into the whole BABY baby scene either! I'm having a little boy....again...and have yet to buy anything baby blue. You'd be suprised what you find through Google and Ebay, but you REALLY have to search. Good luck!

I'm not sure exactly which rock-n-roll edge you are going for, but this weekend I was at Burlington Coat factory and saw wall stickers that were records. They were really cute. About the size of a real record, and the label areas were really colorful. I can't remember 100% but I think they were blank labels, may be neat to wrte on our own "title". Thought they might be cute wall decor. The were in the wall art area. They may be on-line, haven't checked.
