CONSTIPATION
HEADACHES & MUSCLE SPASMS
ACID REFLUX
BLOATING/GAS
SWELLING
NAUSEA


CONSTIPATION
Factors can include:

  • Hydration
  • Motility (movement)
  • Fiber
  • Nutrients (iron, calcium)

Remedies can include:

  • Increasing fluids
  • Increasing bran intake (i.e., wheat, rice, oat bran)
  • Adding oils (i.e., sesame, olive, flaxseed*)
  • Adding vegetables like spinach and okra

*Do not use flaxseed oil for cooking

HEADACHES & MUSCLE SPASMS
Factors can include:

 

  • Hydration
  • Caffeine withdrawal
  • Fatigue
  • Heat exhaustion
  • Stress

Remedies can include:

  • Breathing techniques
  • Yoga
  • Prenatal massage
  • Peppermint tea
  • Water
  • Sleep
  • Potassium rich foods like avocado, coconut water, tomato sauce, and figs

ACID REFLUX
Factors can include:

  • Increased pressure on the stomach’s sphincters due to the growth of the fetus
  • Eating too much or just before lying down
  • Giving in to cravings for fried, greasy, high-fat, or spicy foods

Remedies can include:

  • Movement after eating, like a light stroll
  • Eating smaller amounts
  • Adjusting the head of the bed to a higher angle with pillows or blocks
  • Avoiding mint
  • Avoiding citrus (lemon and lime are usually OK)
  • Avoiding spicy foods
  • Having baked versions of popular fried foods
