Stylish Twins Baby Shower Ideas
by Jennifer Sbranti
Founder, Hostess with the Mostess

I f you know a mom-to-be who’s expecting twins, help her welcome the babies with a shower that "doubles" the fun! Contrary to popular belief, there are more options for creating a twins shower than "Two Peas in a Pod" and "Noah's Ark" (two by two animals) themes. Here are a few general twins shower ideas that can be adapted for any color palette and party look your heart desires. Try them with solid colors, animal prints, retro patterns... the sky's the limit! Just focus on pairing things together, and you'll easily end up with a very twins-appropriate soirée!

Party Decor

  • Instead of one large centerpiece for your tables, use two smaller ones. For example, two small topiaries, two petite-sized flower bouquets, or two baby bottles filled with candy or decorative paper, embellished with ribbon and propped up on a cake stand or small pedestal to add height. To give a sweet touch to flower bouquets and containers, string pacifiers onto stylish ribbon and wrap them around the vases. Add interest to the design by reversing the colors of the vases and pacifiers and using the opposite main color of each for the band of ribbon and pacifier embellishment.
  • Hang paper lanterns from the ceiling in sets of two. Use different colors for each pair of lanterns, leaving space and varying heights between sets so that the "double" vibe is very obvious! Glue a chipboard number "1" or "2" (available at craft stores) to each lantern.
  • Create a makeshift "clothesline" to display on the wall or across the room and hang up pairs of baby onesies, baby tees, hats, and booties. Make sure to use two of the same design to emphasize the "twins" theme, but you can mix up the colors to match your party palette (especially if mom is expecting a boy and a girl) – or opt for twin-themed designs like these fun Frick and Frack Rompers from justmultiples.com.
  • For the gift table, display two big decorative arrangements right next to each other to create a big impact. Fill large vases with tall mitsumata branches adorned with two colors of pacifiers, and embellish the vases to match your theme – just keep the look identical.

 Party Favors

  • Wrap a pair of old-fashioned candy sticks or rock candy lollipops with ribbon and a gift tag that reads "Two is twice as sweet!"
  • Fill cellophane bags with a pair of decorated sugar cookies that each feature one of the baby’s names, the word "twins," or the numbers "1" and "2."
  • Any type of fun product given in sets of two would actually work just fine – lip glosses, mini soaps, truffles, etc. Just customize the items for the occasion with a theme-oriented gift tag and cute packaging.

On the Menu

Carry the twins theme over into your food and drinks table by arranging bottled drinks into sets of two with space between each set, and serving munchies and treats that work in "pairs." For example: bite-sized grilled cheese sandwiches paired with mini tomato soups served in espresso or juice cups, mini cheeseburgers with individually packaged pockets of fries, a cheese plate and a cracker plate, strawberries with chocolate dipping sauce. When arranging the dishes on your buffet, make sure to leave space between each menu item to emphasize the "pairing" theme!
