hey say “New year, new you,” right? Well, that “new you” is definitely ready for 2009!
With so much style oozing out of the calendar already this year, there are some fashion must-haves for pregnant and new moms that most certainly deserve to be highlighted. Here are a few of my favorites:
The “New” Rainbow
Forget the typical colors of the rainbow and say hello to lilac, lime, papaya, cerise, lemon, and lavender. This will add a splash of color to your spring 2009 wardrobe. Think about accessories too - a nice black suit is instantly chic with the addition of a lime green patent leather clutch. I especially love bright, bold shoes - they’ll take any outfit from frumpy to fabulous!
Too Much is Never Enough
I said it before and I’ll say it again… go big on accessories in ‘09. Whether you’re pregnant or a new haute momma, there’s no better way to get a quick style fix than adding some amazing accessories. Chunky necklaces are nice accessories for a growing belly, and giant, oversized metal cuffs are the perfect complement to jeans and a tee. Even better - why not layer a few chains or bangles?
Print Patrol
There is probably no bigger trend in maternity fashion than fabrics with prints and there are some great prints for spring 2009, which are most definitely worth adding to your collection. Stick with smaller modern prints and remember to use the beautiful color palette for spring. Steer clear of basic floral prints and opt for those that are more retro and mod. I especially love designs that have that computer-generated vibe. And don’t forget a nice ikat print - it worked in 2008 and will continue to in 2009!
Lovely Lady
A big trend you are sure to see this spring... ruffles! Now don’t be scared - although I must admit, I was! I have never been a fan of ruffles, or anything frilly for that matter, but I have come to love how PRETTY this trend really is. And what pregnant lady or new mom doesn’t want to feel pretty? For all you pregnant gals, look for ruffled tiered skirts and blouses with Victorian-esque ruffles. But be careful and take notice of where the ruffles fall as you don’t want too many layers on your growing belly - that’s just not sexy. I really love the look of a lightweight blousy tunic with arm and chest ruffles over cropped leggings with a simple ballet flat... so feminine, so pretty!
I can keep going on and on about all the fabulous trends to watch for in spring 2009, but I’ll stop here as I know how overwhelmed you must be. The holidays are over, but the New Year has just begun!
Happy New Year and cheers to a fantastic 2009!
